Patnitop
is a hill station with ample opportunities for adventure sports,
walks and picnics. Enveloped by thick wooded forests of pine and
cedar, Patnitop is blanketed with sheets of snow in winters, making
it among India's best ski resorts. Excellent views are provided by
the mountains forming the backdrop of the Chenab basin and three
ice-cold fresh water springs. Situated at an altitude of 2,024 m, it
is 112 Km from Jammu and is a getaway destination for trekkers,
winter sports lovers or people who just wish to soak up the pristine
natural beauty of the region.

Visiting TimeAlthough
Patnitop is an 'anytime' place, the best time for a visit are
summer, during May-June, and autumn, September-October. If seeking
snowboard joys, December to March is the time to be here.
Attractions
- The Naag Temple
Situated on top of the hill, the
temple is more than 600 years old. The temple witnesses a large
number of devotees on all days and on special occasions, the
number is mind boggling. The temple is also a good option for
excursions.
- Paragliding In recent years, aero sports have becom
e
quite prominent in the town. Tourist widely indulge
in
Parasailing and hot air ballooning, but the most popular is Para
gliding. May, June, September and October are the most favorable
months for indulging is this activity.
- Skiing Patnitop also attracts a lot of tourist
because of the skiing possibilities that are present here
In winter months, special skiing classes for beginners has been
introduced, specially in January and February. The snow covered
slopes of Patnitop are not very steep or bumpy, so they turn out
to be perfect for starters. For more experienced legs, there is
Madhatop, just 5 km away from here, which is more difficult and
challenging.
Patnitop is an ideal place for walks and picnics. Sanasar,
19-km away was chosen by J&K Tourism for major development.
Situated in a Gulmarg-like meadow it has picnic spots around. The
6-hole golf course is being expanded to 9-holes. Pony rides along
little known trails, camping and walks can be indulged in by those
with a less adventurous spirit. The daring can opt for Para gliding
and basic skiing, introduces in recent years. Sudh Mahadev is
another sacred spot situated close to Patnitop.
